The YOTREPS List server handles distribution of the following postings:
1) SUMMARIES - 0000UTC summaries of weather and position reports
received within the last 24 hours. These are formatted and
ready for loading into the Offshore Reporter program for
plotting, position course and wind vectors.
2) WEATHERGRAMS - Bob McDavitts long term weather prognoses
for boats in the South Pacific.
3) FIJI FLEET - 5 figure codes that provide a quick method of
obtaining a synoptic chart of the mid South Pacific.
4) PF BULLETIN - Weather from Meteo-France covering French
Polynesia and including fleet codes. the foreforecast is
in simple French and in 4 sections ie. Warnings, General
Situation, area forecasts and analysis.
5) VANUATU WX - From the Vanuatu National Weather ForecastingCentre,
this buletin includes the General Situation. Includes Warnings and Area
Forecasts for Vanuatue sea areas.
6) PACSEANET - The Pacific Seafarer's net roll call report.
A single copy of any of these postings can be obtained by sending a plain
text, subjectless e-mail to yotreps@pangolin.co.nz with either the key word
eg. "WEATHERGRAM", "FIJI FLEET" or "PF BULLETIN" in the message body.
(Please note that when sending these and other commands words to the list
server, quotes should not be included)
JOINING THE LIST

To obtain regular copies of these postings as they are issued, you can
join the list. Too do this send a, subjectless e-mail to
yotreps@pangolin.co.nz
with the word "JOIN" in the message body followed by one
or more of the following words to indicate the type of messages you would
like to receive:
"SUMMARY", "WEATHERGRAM", "FIJI FLEET", "PF BULLETIN" or "PACSEANET"
Include no other text in your message. If at some stage you wish to change
your list of choices, the procedure is to first LEAVE the list (see below)
and then submit a fresh JOIN request.
LEAVING THE LIST

Send a plain text subjectless e-mail to yotreps@pangolin.co.nz with just the
word "LEAVE" in the message body.
NOTES FOR YOTREPS REPORTERS

1) If you've not already done so, please check out the YOTREPS web site by
following the link from www.pangolin.co.nz It includes basic information on
how the scheme operates, Frequently Asked Questions, reporting protocols,
the boat position plotter and Ocean passage weather analysis pages. Also a
form for entering your vessel details - it's always interesting to know who
we're speaking to and something of the type of vessel you are sending
observations from.
2) YOTREPS reports from boats on passage and that include weather
observations are especially welcome. To keep shoreside friends and family
in touch with progress you can also send them from anchorages, ports or
marinas but in these cases please do not include weather observations.
3) The recommended passage reporting frequency is one per 24 hours. You can
report more frequently though after a month, all but your last report
per day will be deleted.
4) Please use only UTC times and dates. Reports received at the server more
than 24 hours after their validity time, or with future dates are
rejected. Misunderstanding UTC data and time is the most common error.
5) The vast majority of reports received are processed without difficulty
but if you can't view the web plotter and would like confirmation that
yours have been received, send an e-mail to yotreps@pangolin.co.nz with
just the words "LOG ID" where ID = your YOTREPS identifier. Within 10
minutes of receipt, the server will post back to you a log summary of
your last 10 reports and their error status.
6) Reports are plotted and distributed to forecasters as they are received
so if you make a mistake, sending another report will not fix the problem,
except that as explained above asubsequent report sent in the same day
will cause your earlier report to be deleted one month later.
7) YOTREPS reports are routinely forwarded to search and rescue coordinators,
met. forecasters, and used in an ocean passage weather analysis web page.
For this reason, weather observations form an important part of passage
reports. One or two blank observation fields are acceptable but reports
with no weather observations are stored for one month only.
8) Reports remain in the web site data base for at least a year. When you
have a few in the system the following URL can be used to show a plot of
your last 30 reports:

(where ID is your reporting identifier)
This link can be used by shoreside friends and supporters needing to keep
up to date with your progress or can be used within your own web page.
9) How can I add a personal note to my web tracker plot? You can do this by
sending it to yotreps@pangolin.co.nz. The first line of your note should
be:
POSTCARD ID
(where ID is your reporting identifier)
The last line of your note should be:
NNNN
